FitBit Chronicles: Part III

Let’s take a small break away from the inundation of COVID-19 coverage and randomly talk about the FitBit. The last FitBit post I wrote in 2016 spoke about my experience on the John Heinz trail in Philly. Since that trail, I’ve used the FitBit and walked the trail, worked out and lived my daily life maintaining my goal of 10,000 steps as best as I could. I even upgraded my FitBit to the FitBit Flex 2. However, there were times when I had some “downs” with the FitBit.

The Downs

Off and on, the syncing option would be inoperable. This really frustrated me because I could do a long day of walking, knowing I have my miles in and when it came time to sync, it wouldn’t go through. So I’d have to reset the device often. Booo! Also, if it wasn’t the actual FitBit, something would happen to my app on my phone (most likely not having enough space) and it disconnects. Then comes more discouragement: Feeling shackled to it when I have it on, but then nearly having a panic attack if it’s forgotten at home. Or I would misplace either the device or the charger or I’d just forget about everything and live “FitBitless.” The latter happened the most throughout the last four years.

The New Ups

Fast forward to 2020. I see so many people with their fancy FitBits and Apple Watches. I feel like I’ve been so out of the loop with keeping up with the FitBit updates. Then there’s the apprehension of showing off my old FitBit Flex 2. FitBit doesn’t even make these anymore. 😫 However, I realized it’s doing the same thing others have – keeping track of my steps, water intake, food intake, sleep and more! Really, the app is the main thing that has updated with cool new features. This reasoning fueled my motivation to use the Flex 2 again – and it still works!

Just recently, I found the charger, broken on one side, but it still works. Maybe it’s a little dangerous? 😬

I charged my FitBit and slapped it on my arm. I re-downloaded the app on my phone and a new journey with it begins! It still does the job. In the future, I will get an updated device again. I like that the newer ones come standard in tracking heart rate, sleep, and even what kind of workout you’re doing. Oh yeah, and the text message sync is a nice addition too. 😏

During this social distancing, my family and I are doing a daily workout challenge that my sister found. Whoever doesn’t do it for that day will have to put up $1 and the one who does most of the challenge days wins the total amount. I’ll keep you posted on what happens with that and what’s next for my FitBit journey!

Until next time (hopefully not four years from now)!
