2015 is going so fast – summer is around the corner!
Today is also Avengers day for movie and comic buffs out there. I’m an Avengers fan but I’ll spare my comments and hype over it since there are plenty of posts about it today.
Although I do have a debate with myself – go to the movies or visit some free art for First Friday! For art buffs, this is an anticipated day each month. First Friday, wherever you are, is full of free art browsing in streets, in museums, in art centers and even in restaurants. Some places offer items to buy and some just offer refreshments – including wine and cheese. 😍 I would recommend eating dinner afterwards to seal the artsy feel.
Tonight, Philly has a bunch of things going on. Mostly in Old City and some near Rittenhouse Square and lined up around the Ben Franklin Parkway. Some highlights I saw on the Uwishunu and Old City Arts sites are:
The A List Look: Latasha and Lamar Jewelry First Friday Event
228 Arch St, Philadelphia • 6p to 8p
You have to register for this one on Eventbrite but you have a chance to win a pair of earrings! Latasha and Lamar is a jewelry shop that is having its first First Friday appearance. Check out the intriguing jewelry they offer in their online shop.
Philadelphia Independents: One Year Anniversary
35 N. 3rd Street, Philadelphia • 6p to 9p
The retail gift shop is having its first anniversary and celebrating with ice cream from Weckerly’s! Oh and we can’t forget the art – local artist Eli VandenBerg will debut his ink drawings entitled “Greetings from Philadelphia.”
National Liberty Museum: Behind The Scenes Tour
321 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia • 6p to 8p
This is another (free) Eventbrite registered event but well worth it! Get a behind-the-scenes tour on the museum’s glass art collection. This is a special treat because this tour is usually off limits to the public.
Philadelphia Museum of Art: Art After 5
Great Stair Hall, 2600 Benjamin Franklin Parkway • 5p to 8:45p
There’s going to be a Mexican dance party with a live all-female mariachi band, Mariachi Flor de Toloache (I can only assume it’s related to Cinco de Mayo coming up). The event is free after admission. At the same time, visual art tours will be in session for non dancers. 😉
Aren’t these exciting? These are just a few standout First Friday events I found here in Philly. Make sure to check out your local tourist website to find a fun First Friday event near you! Hmm. I think I’ll try the free artsy thing tonight and steer away from the movie crowds – until tomorrow. 😉
